Parrott Construction turn derelict historic buildings into modern and affordable housing

Parrott Construction have helped to transform a cluster of once derelict buildings in Bedford into comfortable, modern and affordable housing.

The historic buildings – 1-4 St Paul’s Square – in the heart of the town centre date back to 1460 and had been left vacant for almost 40 years.

The buildings have a rich history and play a key part in Bedford High Street and St. Paul’s Square’s ‘townscape’.

• 1 St. Paul’s Square was built in the 16th century and has been used as an inn, a home, auction house, stockbrokers and most recently the county architect’s office.
• 2- 3 St. Paul’s Square were built in the 18th century.
• 4 St. Paul’s Square was the last of the terrace to be built as the vicarage to St Paul’s Church.

Parrott Construction’s own tradesmen carried out much of the nine-month restoration and repair work for Aldwyck Housing Group with some help from specialist sub-contractors.

Funding for this important and exciting renovation project came from Aldwyck’s own capital investment, a grant from the Homes and Communities Agency, Bedford High Street’s Townscape Heritage initiative, and grant funding from Bedford Borough Council’s Affordable Housing Budget.

Parrott Construction were justifiably proud to have been chosen as main contractors for this prestigious refurbishment of these listed buildings and took great delight in handing the keys back to Aldwyck Housing Group.

The company now looks forward to continuing their excellent working relationship with Aldwyck.
