Almshouse Scheme Commences

Construction has started on a £2.5 million development of 12 bungalows arranged around a central courtyard in Cranfield, Bedfordshire for the James Goodman Almshouse Charity.

All of the properties will have disabled access, wet rooms, two good sized bedrooms and other modern facilities, with two of the properties being specifically designed for wheelchair users. The project, which is situated on the edge of a larger development in Cranfield, will look out over the parish church and the new village green. The first sod was turned early September with completion projected within 12 months.

The Trustees wanted a local contractor with an excellent reputation for quality builds and the expertise to produce a quality design, using energy efficient construction and a building that would provide not only good homes for the residents, but also produce a quality landmark.

Chris Layram, Managing Director – Parrott Construction commented:-

It is a privilege to be involved in such a local and high specification project. Unlike a lot of projects we are involved with, we have had time to plan, research and meet frequently with the clients, with time in hand. The focus has definitely been on quality and longevity of materials to be used in the build process”.
