Parrott Construction works with the One Service to provide training opportunities

Parrott Construction has been working with the One Service in Peterborough recently, providing ex-offenders from HMP Peterborough with an opportunity to gain some work experience within the building industry.

One Service offers services and support to help past offenders. They offer assistance with accommodation needs, accessing benefits, getting ID, mental and physical issues, relationship help, education and training, as well as career and work experience.

Parrott Construction teamed up with the organisation to provide temporary employment opportunities for short term ex-offenders, on site at Park Lane, Peterborough, to help them get their lives back on track by gaining construction experience, knowledge and skills to assist them in positively moving forward within the community.

This scheme was recently featured on BBC Look East, highlighting the valuable work of the One Service with young short term offenders. Roger Mason, Parrott Construction Health, Safety & Quality Manager, who coordinated the initiative outlined the benefits of the scheme live on the BBC news program.

He said: “We need people to come through to learn the trades, so the lads we’ve had so far have learnt quite a lot from us, and hopefully they’ll carry it forward into their future lives.”

The organisation concentrates on providing through the gate support to help individuals with whatever it is they may need help with regarding life skills after their time in prison, and Parrott Construction are proud to be a part of helping people with this.
