Parrotts complete houses in rural Northamptonshire village

Residents in a historic rural Northamptonshire village are delighted to have swapped an ugly garage complex for a development of attractive new homes – thanks to builders Parrott Constructions.

Bedford-based Parrotts have just handed over the keys to the three new houses and two new flats on land in the ancient village of Ashton – all built on a site previously hosting uninviting and dilapidated garages.

The project, sympathetically designed to suit the 700 year old rural village – once famed for its fine lace-making – was completed in just nine months, keeping disruption to the tranquil neighbourhood to a minimum throughout the build.

“The buildings use many traditional materials and are a very attractive design, we are really happy with the way the project has been completed,” said Parrott Construction’s MD Chris Layram.

“The ex-garage site was a real eyesore, but is now an attractive addition to the village scene and is a home for five lucky local families.”

The high quality houses have all been built to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3, which will result in lower running costs to the residents than traditional designs, and the whole scheme and materials used in the project have been certified as Secure by Design.

The dwellings are available for rental to local people through South Northants Homes Housing Association.

Feedback from local residents has been extremely positive – one local resident and Parish Councillor was so impressed with the project, they wrote:

“We have seen the new residents moving into the new homes yesterday and today and it is so nice to know that the lovely new houses will be occupied and to recognise how happy this must make the new residents feel.

We have been watching the houses go up (being retired and interested) and wanted to compliment Russell Eady and his team from Parrott Construction on the very professional job they did. We saw an amazing build. The builders worked hard in all weathers and Russell even managed to overcome a good deal of the opposition to the build and make a working relationship with the neighbours. We were sorry to see them leave.
